Smartsheet Expert (Remote, US) - Toptal Contract Role — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
Despite being listed as "Anywhere in the World" on the job board, this role explicitly requires applicants to be US-based. This is a hard geographic restriction — non-US residents and digital nomads currently outside the US are not eligible, regardless of time zone availability.
For US-based nomads, the picture is more interesting. This is a freelance/contract engagement via Toptal, which typically operates asynchronously and is deliverable-focused rather than hours-tracked. Work revolves around building Smartsheet artifacts and producing training materials — tasks well-suited to flexible, self-managed schedules.
- Timezone flexibility: Likely requires some overlap with US business hours for client coaching sessions, but build work and training material creation can be done async.
- Visa considerations: As a US-based requirement, you must have valid US work authorization. US citizens traveling abroad could technically work remotely, but must maintain US residency/address for compliance.
- No travel perks mentioned: No equipment stipend, coworking allowance, or travel budget referenced.
Bottom line: this is a solid short-term contract for US-based nomads who can handle occasional synchronous client calls. Those based outside the US should look for similar Smartsheet/PM tool specialist roles that explicitly allow international contractors.
