Senior Rails Engineer at Evident Change - Remote US — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
US-Only Remote — Not Globally Location-Independent
This role is explicitly restricted to workers based within the United States, so international nomads or travelers outside the US cannot apply. However, for US-based remote workers or digital nomads who travel domestically (van life, city-hopping within the US), this is a strong opportunity.
Schedule Flexibility: The posting signals a relaxed environment with "work schedule flexibility where possible," suggesting some async-friendliness. However, the role involves mentoring engineers and collaborating with stakeholders, which typically implies some overlap hours — likely US business hours (ET/CT/MT/PT). Expect semi-sync rather than fully async.
Nomad-Friendly Perks:
- Monthly work-from-anywhere stipend — explicitly designed to support location-flexible work; could offset coworking costs or travel expenses.
- No mandated office presence — pure remote setup.
Salary vs. US Nomad Hubs: At $108,500–$115,000/year, this salary goes far in lower cost-of-living US cities. In Austin, TX (~$3,500/mo rent for a 1BR), you'd have strong purchasing power. In Denver or Asheville, NC — popular "slow-mads" destinations — you'd live comfortably. Note that compensation adjusts based on where you live, so residing in a lower-COL area could maximize take-home value.
