Remote QC Specialist AI Data - Freelance $39/hr — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
This role is an excellent fit for digital nomads and location-independent workers. As a fully remote, freelance QC Specialist with no fixed hours specified beyond 10 hours per week, it is highly async-friendly — you can complete your reviews at any time of day, making timezone constraints essentially non-existent.
Schedule flexibility: With only 10 hours per week required on a task-based model, this fits perfectly as a supplementary income source alongside travel. There are no meeting obligations or synchronous check-in requirements mentioned.
Visa considerations: Since Welo Data operates across 100+ countries, contractors in Argentina and Mexico (the hinted locations) can work legally as local freelancers. Digital nomad visas in countries like Portugal, Costa Rica, or Indonesia would also allow you to work this contract while residing abroad legally.
Earnings vs. cost of living: At $39.60/hr for 10 hrs/week, you'd earn roughly $1,584/month. Compare this to:
- Lisbon, Portugal: Comfortable living ~$1,800–2,200/mo — this works well as a supplement
- Bangkok, Thailand: Comfortable living ~$1,000–1,400/mo — this income nearly covers full expenses
- Medellín, Colombia: Comfortable living ~$900–1,300/mo — income comfortably covers costs
No equipment stipend or coworking allowance is mentioned, but minimal gear is needed — just a computer and internet connection.
About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented Quality Control (QC) Specialist to support an AI data annotation project. In this role, you will review the work submitted by Trainers — pre-seeded questions paired with images and their corresponding "golden" answers — to confirm accuracy, consistency, and adherence to project guidelines.
This is a task-based, remote-friendly opportunity ideal for individuals who are highly meticulous, observant, and skilled at spotting errors or inconsistencies that others may miss.
What You'll Do
- Review completed tasks submitted by Trainers, including the original question, the image, and the golden answer provided
- Independently verify whether the golden answer is correct based on the image
- Identify and flag incorrect, incomplete, ambiguous, or inconsistent answers
- Provide clear, constructive feedback or corrections to help maintain overall data quality
- Track recurring error patterns and report them to the project team
- Ensure Trainer output meets the project's quality bar before final sign-off
- Escalate unclear cases (e.g., illegible images, ambiguous questions) to the project team for resolution
What We're Looking For
- Native/strong proficiency in Spanish
- Bachelor's degree required
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong quality mindset
- Good visual observation and reading comprehension skills
- Ability to apply guidelines/rubrics consistently and objectively
- Strong written English communication skills, especially for giving feedback
- Prior experience in quality assurance, quality control, editing, proofreading, or data review is a plus
- Reliable access to a computer and internet connection
Work Format & Compensation
- Work Type: Freelance, remote
- Hours/Schedule: 10 hours per week
- Compensation: $39.60/hr
- Duration: Long-term
