Our Review
Nomad Traditional Leather Strap (Black) — a watch band that gets better the more you travel with it
The gist: A classic vegetable-tanned Horween leather Apple Watch band that develops a unique travel-worn patina the more miles and memories it picks up.
- Horween leather from an American tannery: Sourced from one of the US's oldest tanneries, vegetable-tanned and minimally treated so it darkens and softens with wear rather than looking factory-perfect forever.
- Beeswaxed linen stitching: Pre-stretched, beeswaxed thread holds the strap together and resists loosening, important for a band that's going to see backpack straps and humid climates.
- Soft leather lining: A backing layer keeps the strap comfortable against skin even as the outer leather stiffens slightly out of the box.
- Not water-safe: Unlike Nomad's rubber straps, this leather band should not be fully submerged — wipe with a damp cloth only.
AppleInsider's extended review noted that after roughly six months of wear, Horween leather like this "clearly benefitted" from developing a rich patina, though the reviewer found the Traditional style "quite stiff" and "a tad thicker" fresh out of the box.
Best for: travelers who want a watch band that ages into a personal travel journal rather than staying pristine. Skip it if: you're headed somewhere with pools, beaches, or heavy rain — reach for a rubber strap instead. Runs ~$20-100 — check the current price before buying.
