Our Review
Nomad Traditional Leather Strap (Rustic Brown, 42/44mm) — the bigger-case version of a band built to age well
The gist: The same rustic brown Horween leather Traditional Strap, sized for the larger 42/44mm Apple Watch case, built to darken and soften with every trip rather than stay showroom-new.
- American-tanned Horween leather: Vegetable-tanned, minimally treated leather that's designed to pick up a rich, individual patina the more it's worn and exposed to the elements.
- Durable beeswaxed stitching: Pre-stretched linen thread resists loosening under the friction of daypacks, sleeves, and long travel days.
- Soft leather backing: Cushions the wrist even though the outer leather is noticeably firm and needs a short break-in period fresh out of the box.
- Water-sensitive: Not designed for submersion — a damp cloth wipe is the recommended care method, so save the rubber strap for pool or beach days.
AppleInsider's six-month test of the rustic brown colorway found the Horween leather "clearly benefitted" from developing a rich patina over that period, while flagging that the Traditional style runs "quite stiff" and thicker than Nomad's slimmer options when new.
Best for: nomads with the larger Apple Watch case who want a leather band that becomes more personal with use. Skip it if: you're headed somewhere wet or sweaty — this isn't the strap for that. Runs ~$100 — check the current price before buying.
