Remote Accountant at Instructure - Philippines IFRS Role — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
Remote/Hybrid Flexibility: Instructure explicitly supports remote and hybrid work arrangements, and this role requires comfort working across time zones — a positive signal for location-flexible professionals. However, the role is anchored to the Philippines, with specific statutory compliance responsibilities under Philippine regulations and a strong preference for a Philippine CPA license. This limits true location independence.
Timezone Considerations: Collaborating with teams in the US, Europe, and Asia-Pacific means you'll likely need overlap windows spanning Philippine Standard Time (PST, UTC+8). For nomads, staying within the APAC timezone band (e.g., Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia) makes scheduling much more manageable.
Visa Practicality: Since the role requires a Philippine CPA and local statutory filing knowledge, working from abroad on a tourist visa in another country could create legal and tax complications. Digital nomad visas in nearby destinations (Thailand's LTR visa, Indonesia's Second Home Visa) are technically possible for individuals, but compliance obligations tie this role meaningfully to the Philippines.
- Bangkok, Thailand: Cost of living ~$1,200–1,800/month; comfortable on a Philippine mid-senior accountant salary if remote work from there is permitted.
- Bali, Indonesia: ~$1,000–1,500/month; popular nomad hub but timezone-friendly (UTC+8).
The role provides tech tools and promotes flexible work culture, but the Philippine compliance focus makes it best suited for residents of or frequent returnees to the Philippines rather than fully location-independent nomads.
