Remote Sales Engineer at Commvault - US Remote Role — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
This role is tagged #LI-Remote and explicitly states candidates must be able to "work remotely and autonomously" — a positive signal for location flexibility. However, ideal candidates are expected to be based in Austin, TX or New Jersey, which significantly limits true nomadic freedom. This is a home-base remote role, not a location-independent one.
The most critical constraint for digital nomads: up to 50% travel is required. This means roughly 2 weeks per month on the road visiting enterprise clients, attending QBRs, and conducting on-site demos — primarily within the US. International slow-travel or long-stay nomadism is not practical in this context.
- Timezone: Customers and partners are US-based (SHI is a major US IT distributor), so you'll need to operate reliably in US Central or Eastern business hours.
- Visa: The role is US-only; a valid US work authorization is effectively required given the client-facing travel obligations.
- Salary vs. nomad COL: At $93K–$183K base plus commission, earnings are strong. In Lisbon (≈$2,500/mo COL) or Medellín (≈$1,500/mo), savings potential would be high — but the 50% domestic travel requirement makes sustained overseas stays impractical.
If you're a nomad seeking a fully location-independent pre-sales SE role, look for companies without geographic client-base constraints or those offering EMEA/APAC territories with async-friendly structures. This role suits a US-based remote worker who enjoys frequent domestic travel, not a globe-trotting nomad.
