Traveler-Friendly Insight

Location Constraint: Japan-Only Role
This position requires legal authorization to live and work in Japan, making it unsuitable for most digital nomads unless you already hold Japanese residency or a valid Japanese work visa. Japan does not yet offer a widely accessible digital nomad visa, though it introduced a "Specified Skilled Worker" and "Highly Skilled Professional" visa pathway that some tech workers can leverage.

Remote Flexibility
The role is officially remote-first within Japan, with a preference for candidates in Tokyo (hybrid) or Fukuoka (remote). Up to 10% travel is required for internal events. This is not a location-agnostic role — you must be physically based in Japan, limiting true nomadic flexibility.

Schedule & Timezone Considerations
As a customer-facing sales role serving Japanese clients, you'll be working Japan Standard Time (JST, UTC+9) with fixed business hours. This role is not async-friendly — live prospecting calls and lead follow-up require real-time availability during Japanese business hours, making timezone-hopping impractical.

  • Tokyo: High cost of living (~$2,500–$3,500/month for a single professional), but world-class infrastructure and transport
  • Fukuoka: Much lower cost of living (~$1,500–$2,200/month), strong tech scene, and explicitly mentioned as a preferred remote location — an excellent base for those who want Japan life at reduced cost

For nomads who dream of Japan, Fukuoka is a practical and affordable entry point if you can secure the right visa. Focus your job search on roles that explicitly support work authorization sponsorship if you're not already a Japan resident.
