Remote-First Culture — Good News for Location-Flexible Workers

Fieldguide explicitly describes itself as a remote-first company and lists "help the team operate effectively in a remote-first environment" as a core responsibility. The posting also mentions flexible work schedules, which suggests some degree of async-friendliness. However, this is an Engineering Manager role requiring close team coordination, so expect regular overlapping hours with a US-based team — likely Pacific or Eastern time windows for standups, 1:1s, and planning sessions.

Timezone Considerations: The company is headquartered in San Francisco (PT). As a people manager, you'll need consistent availability during US business hours, making deep nomad time zones (Southeast Asia, Oceania) impractical without very early or late calls. Best-fit nomad bases:

  • Medellín, Colombia (ET-1) — Minimal overlap issues, low cost of living (~$1,500–2,000/mo for comfort), and a thriving tech community.
  • Lisbon, Portugal (GMT+1) — Manageable PT overlap (afternoons only), strong digital nomad infrastructure, and a D8 Digital Nomad Visa available for non-EU nationals.
  • Mexico City, Mexico (CT) — Excellent US timezone alignment, no visa friction for short stays, and a vibrant remote-work scene.

Perks relevant to travelers: The technology & work-from-home reimbursement could cover peripherals or coworking memberships. No specific mention of a coworking allowance or travel budget for team meetups, so factor in that possibility during negotiation.

We make audit practitioners' lives easier by eliminating up to 50% of their work and giving them better work-life balance. If you share our values and enthusiasm for building a great culture and product, you will find a home at Fieldguide.

  • Effective in environments with many concurrent priorities and cross-functional requests
  • Strong coach and operator who can support a high-functioning, established team
  • Energized by building with AI tools and helping teams develop practical processes for using AI well
