Observability Architect at Grafana Labs - Remote US — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
West Coast Timezone Constraint is the Key Limitation. While Grafana Labs is 100% remote and truly global, this role explicitly requires candidates to be located on the US West Coast. That narrows the nomad-friendly window considerably — you'll need to operate within roughly PT/PDT (UTC-8/UTC-7), which means customer calls and internal syncs are likely scheduled around Pacific business hours. This is not a fully async, timezone-agnostic position.
Travel requirement: Up to 25% travel to client sites is expected. For nomads, this means you need a stable base for client visits and cannot be perpetually on the move. Budget for flights and accommodation reimbursement may apply, but confirm with your recruiter.
Visa considerations: Grafana's global team spans 40+ countries, but this specific role is US-only. US citizens can leverage a US passport for short digital nomad stints — Mexico (no visa required), Portugal's Digital Nomad Visa (D8), or Costa Rica's Rentista Visa are viable options if the employer confirms you can work from abroad temporarily. Non-US applicants should note this role is scoped to the US market.
Salary vs. nomad cost of living: The OTE of $139K–$167K USD goes very far in popular nomad hubs. In Medellín, Colombia, a comfortable lifestyle runs ~$2,000–$2,500/month; in Chiang Mai, Thailand, ~$1,500–$2,000/month; even Lisbon, Portugal runs ~$3,000–$3,500/month — all well within reach on this salary.
- RSUs add meaningful upside beyond base salary.
- 30 days PTO plus company shutdown days support extended travel windows.
