Traveler-Friendly Insight

This role is explicitly tagged #LI-REMOTE and scoped to Remote Germany, meaning you must be legally based in Germany — but you don't need to be in a specific city. That opens the door to living in lower-cost German cities like Leipzig or Dresden rather than Munich or Frankfurt.

Async-friendliness: Mozilla is well-known for its distributed, async-first engineering culture. The job description specifically calls out working with a "geographically-distributed development team," which is a strong signal for flexible scheduling. Fixed real-time hours are likely minimal, though some overlap with European and North American timezones may be expected for cross-team collaboration.

Visa & residency considerations: Since the contract is tied to Germany, you'll need to be an EU/EEA resident or hold a valid German work permit. Germany's Freiberufler (freelancer) visa or the EU Blue Card may apply depending on your situation. Non-EU nomads on tourist visas cannot legally take this role long-term.

Salary context: At €81,000–€108,000/year, this is a competitive senior-level salary in Germany. Consider:

  • Berlin: Comfortable living, rent ~€1,200–€1,800/mo for a 1BR — solid purchasing power
  • Leipzig/Dresden: Significantly lower COL, rent ~€700–€1,000/mo — excellent quality of life
  • Munich: High COL, rent ~€1,800–€2,500/mo — tighter but still manageable

The home office stipend and quarterly wellness stipend are practical perks for remote workers. No explicit coworking or travel budget is mentioned.
