Senior Linux Admin at Vultr - Remote USA Cloud Role — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
This role at Vultr is listed as remote within the USA, meaning you must maintain US-based eligibility — which limits true location independence for international nomads. However, for US citizens or those with US work authorization, this opens meaningful flexibility.
Schedule & Timezone Flexibility: The job description does not specify fixed hours, but Senior Linux Admin roles at cloud companies typically involve on-call rotations and incident response, which can require availability during US business hours (likely EST or PST windows). Async-friendliness is partial — project work may be flexible, but escalated incidents demand real-time response.
Remote Perks Relevant to Nomads:
- $500 first-year remote office stipend + $400/year after — useful for coworking memberships abroad.
- $75/month internet reimbursement helps offset connectivity costs while traveling.
- Professional development budget of $2,500/year can fund certifications obtainable anywhere.
Cost of Living Context (annual salary $80k–$100k USD): If you're a US citizen living nomadically, $80–100k stretches significantly in destinations like Medellín (~$1,500/mo comfortable living), Lisbon (~$2,500/mo), or Bangkok (~$1,200/mo) — but US tax obligations still apply regardless of where you physically reside. Consult a tax professional before relocating abroad on this salary.
Bottom line: great for US-based remote workers who want location flexibility domestically; international nomads face legal work-authorization barriers.
