Traveler-Friendly Insight

Is this role nomad-friendly? Yes — Docplanner explicitly states it is 100% remote-friendly with a fully flexible schedule. Outside of "a couple of meetings weekly," there are no fixed daily hours, making this genuinely async-compatible for a Senior Engineering Manager comfortable with autonomous work.

Timezone considerations: The Warsaw hub (CET/CEST, UTC+1/+2) is the implicit anchor. While no timezone is mandated, stakeholders, product partners, and your direct reports are likely Poland-based. As a manager with direct reports, expect some overlap with European business hours (roughly 9:00–17:00 CET). This rules out purely East Asian or Americas-morning schedules without significant adjustment.

Nomad destination fit:

  • Lisbon, Portugal: Same timezone as London (UTC+1 summer), very close to Warsaw hours. EU citizen or D8 digital nomad visa available. Comfortable on a senior engineering manager salary. Strong nomad infrastructure.
  • Tbilisi, Georgia: UTC+4 — manageable for afternoon overlap with Warsaw. Georgia's "Remotely From Georgia" program offers easy 1-year residency. Very low cost of living.
  • Chiang Mai, Thailand: UTC+7 — challenging for regular European meetings. Best suited for short-term stays with careful calendar management. Thai LTR (Long-Term Resident) visa available for qualifying remote workers.

Travel-relevant perks: No explicit coworking stipend or equipment budget is mentioned, so factor those costs into your budgeting. The generous 20–26 days PTO plus a birthday/anniversary day off gives solid runway for extended trips between work sprints.

Welcome to the good side of tech

You might have heard about us, but with a different name: Znany Lekarz. It all started 12 years ago when we asked ourselves: is anyone in healthcare thinking about patients? We jumped in and empowered patients by giving them access to leave and read reviews about their visit. We then provided doctors with the technology to manage bookings easily and save time, so they could devote themselves to what they always wanted: treating patients. And today is the day in which we ask you: wanna join us in the next step of making the healthcare experience more human?

Docplanner at scale

We are leaders in 13 countries so far, and more than 90 million patients trust us every month. 300k+ specialists believe in us and our product, and so do leading venture capital funds such as Point Nine Capital, Goldman Sachs Asset Management and One Peak Partners. And yet, employing over 2,500 people all over the globe, we managed to keep the startup mindset we started with over 10 years ago.

And why should you join us?

Because it feels good to tell your family and your friends how you made the world a little bit better. You go to bed knowing that what you do matters, and that your talents align with your beliefs.

We want to make the healthcare experience more human, and that starts with you being you. We believe that taking the diversity of human experience into account makes a better healthcare experience for all. We're not just different: we embrace diversity. We will encourage you to come to work your whole self, and that includes not coming to the office at all if you prefer not to, as we're 100% remote friendly.

Job Description

Docplanner is fostering the reinvention of product development, specifically transforming how we approach coding with AI. We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager who will lead this transformation from the front lines, while owning the Patient Engagement area.

This isn't a hands-off management role. It's designed for a leader who stays deeply hands-on in the code and pioneers AI-enabled development practices, while leading a small, high-caliber team — one Engineering Manager and a group of 4–6 senior individual contributors. The role is intentionally weighted toward Lead Through Code (≈70%), with the remaining ≈30% split between growing your team and driving technical transformation.

You will be a driver of our AI-powered product development transformation, working directly with code, teams, and the wider Engineering community to fundamentally reimagine how we build patient-facing software. This role is for someone who thrives on being deeply technical while driving organizational change through example, influence, and results — as we reinvent the very nature of coding itself.

The scope is meaningful: Patient Engagement initiatives that directly impact how people interact with their healthcare, focusing on engagement, retention, and continuity of care. These aren't just features; they're tools that help real people better manage their health.

What Success Looks Like in 6 Months

  • Your team is delivering faster and at higher quality, with AI-enabled workflows becoming the default way of working.
  • Your team — the Engineering Manager and engineers reporting to you — are visibly growing, engaged, and raising their own bar.
  • You're personally shipping — writing code and delivering features at a healthy, steady pace — setting the bar for what good AI-enabled development looks like in practice.
  • Patient Engagement is showing tangible improvements in engagement, retention, and continuity of care.

The real indicator of success? Other teams start knocking on your door. They want to understand your workflows, adopt your practices, and replicate your results — not in theory, but in ways that actually ship better patient experiences, faster.

What You'll Do

Lead Through Code (≈70% hands-on)

  • Solve real patient engagement and continuity challenges through hands-on coding, using cutting-edge AI development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) to demonstrate new possibilities.
  • Prototype and build solutions that showcase AI-enabled development practices in patient-facing products.
  • Work directly in your teams' codebases — not just reviewing, but implementing features and architectural changes.
  • Experiment with and establish AI-powered development workflows, then teach others through direct, hands-on demonstration.

Drive Transformation & Technical Leadership (≈30%)

  • Lead a team of one Engineering Manager and 4–6 senior engineers, owning their growth, performance, and hiring, and coaching the Engineering Manager to multiply your impact.
  • Partner closely with Product and Design to solve real patient problems end to end.
  • Pioneer new AI-enabled development practices in Patient Engagement, prove they work, then help scale them across engineering.
  • Influence the wider Engineering community by example — sharing what works, partnering rather than mandating, and helping teams adopt AI-enabled ways of working.
  • Track and communicate impact with concrete metrics — delivery speed, quality, developer satisfaction, and product outcomes.

What We're Looking For

In a sentence: someone who can code the future while being passionate about delivering real impact to users and inspiring others to follow.

  • Solid hands-on experience using AI to accelerate software development, improving how code is written, reviewed, and refactored, with strong judgment on when to rely on AI versus traditional approaches.
  • Experience in the trenches of complex software delivery, including regulated environments where quality and reliability matter.
  • People naturally follow your technical lead because you consistently deliver results and raise the bar for those around you.
  • You thrive in ambiguity and enjoy being the first to try something new, figure out what works, and help others navigate the same path.
  • You genuinely enjoy teaching and mentoring, whether through pairing, retrospectives, or helping others level up.
  • You measure what matters and iterate relentlessly, focused on building software that is faster, better, and more impactful.

Bonus points if you've worked at scale, but we care more about how you think, the impact you drive, and your focus on meaningful user outcomes than the size of your previous company.

Let's talk money

  • A salary adequate to your experience and skills.

True flexibility and work-life balance

  • Remote or hybrid work model with a hub in Warsaw.
  • Flexible working hours (fully flexible — in most cases you only have to be on a couple of meetings weekly).
  • 20/26 days of paid time off (depending on your contract).
  • Additional paid day off on your birthday or work anniversary (you choose what you want to celebrate).

Health comes first

  • Private healthcare plan with Signal Iduna for you and subsidized for your family.
  • Multisport card co-financing for access to sports facilities across Poland.
  • Access to iFeel, a technological platform for mental wellness offering online psychological support and counseling.

Keep growing with us

  • Free English and Spanish classes.

We promote and embrace equal opportunities in our hiring process, and also every day at work.
