Traveler-Friendly Insight

This CTO role at Submittable is listed as remote-eligible within the US, with flexible hours noted among the benefits — a good baseline for location independence. However, there are meaningful constraints every nomad should understand before applying.

  • US work authorization required: Submittable explicitly cannot sponsor scholastic or employment visas, meaning you must already have the right to work in the US (citizen, green card, or existing EAD). Tourist-visa or nomad-visa scenarios don't apply here.
  • State restrictions: 13 US states are excluded (including Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, and Vermont), so even US-based nomads should verify their tax-nexus state before applying.
  • Timezone realities: The role requires managing engineering teams across India and the US. Expect regular overlap windows with IST (UTC+5:30), which typically means early morning calls if you're on the US East Coast, or late evening if you're in a US Mountain/Pacific timezone. Full async is unlikely at this leadership level.
  • Travel-friendly perks: A professional development stipend could fund coworking memberships or conference attendance. Monthly happy hours suggest some in-person culture, though remote participation appears accommodated.

For US-authorized nomads who "base" in a permitted state, this role offers genuine flexibility — but the executive cadence (board meetings, ELT planning, cross-timezone team leadership) means you'd need a reliable, professional-grade remote setup rather than a casual café lifestyle. Think furnished apartment with dedicated office space over a co-working drop-in.
