Senior Content Marketer at Mercury - Remote US/Canada — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
Remote-First & Async-Friendly: Mercury explicitly describes this role as thriving in a "remote-first, async environment," which is excellent news for digital nomads. You won't be tethered to a fixed office schedule, and the culture actively rewards self-direction and asynchronous collaboration — a core requirement for location-independent work.
Timezone Considerations: The role is open to all US and Canadian locations, but no specific timezone windows are stated. However, given that Mercury is a US-based fintech and you'll partner cross-functionally with teams in North American time zones, plan to overlap meaningfully with US business hours (roughly PT–ET). This is workable from Western Europe (morning overlap) or Southeast Asia with flexible scheduling.
Visa & Location Notes: Eligible workers are limited to the US and Canada, which restricts pure nomad setups abroad unless you hold existing work authorization. If you're a US/Canadian citizen nomading internationally, you could potentially work remotely from abroad on a tourist or digital nomad visa (e.g., Portugal's D8, Thailand's LTR visa, or Colombia's digital nomad visa) — but confirm Mercury's policy on working from outside these countries first.
Salary vs. Nomad Cost of Living:
- Lisbon: At $142K–$178K USD, you'd live very comfortably; monthly costs ~$2,000–$2,800 for a professional lifestyle.
- Bangkok: Outstanding purchasing power — $1,500–$2,200/month covers a high quality of life.
- Medellín: ~$1,200–$1,800/month; salary stretches extremely far here.
No explicit coworking or equipment stipends are mentioned, so factor that into your budget planning.
In 1968, Stewart Brand published the Whole Earth Catalog — a now-iconic publication that inspired generations of builders to think differently about what they could create. Decades later, Steve Jobs would call it "one of the bibles of my generation."
We're not trying to recreate Brand's work, but it's a great reminder that the best content doesn't just answer questions — it expands how people think, build, and solve problems.
Mercury's Stories team is hiring a Senior Content Marketer to help shape and grow exceptional educational and informational content for founders and entrepreneurs — people building companies, navigating uncertainty, and trying to make better decisions every day.
In this role, you'll drive the day-to-day operation of Mercury's educational blog, partnering closely with product marketers, SEO, communications, creatives, and others to continually uplift its quality, reach, and business impact. You'll develop content and distribution opportunities, edit and publish excellent work, think outside the box, and improve the systems that help our content program scale. This is a senior individual contributor role.
We're looking for more than a great writer and editor (though you should be that, too!). We're excited for an exceptional builder-operator who combines strong editorial judgment with a marketer's instinct for audience, distribution, and impact, plus a genuine curiosity about our audience.
If this sounds like you...
- A sharp writer and editor with a knack for turning complex topics into content people actually want to read and engage with.
- An audience-first marketer who balances creativity, craft, and data to make smart and high-impact decisions.
- Deeply curious about business, entrepreneurship, finance, and what founders and builders need to successfully build and operate ambitious companies.
- Always learning, whether it's new technologies, evolving media formats, or how audiences discover information.
- Comfortable bringing clarity to ambiguity, collaborating across disciplines, and raising the quality of the work around you.
- A self-directed program-builder who thrives in remote-first, async environments and brings structure and scalability to shared work…
...then read on.
In this role, you will:
- Manage the day-to-day operation of Mercury's educational blog, from content planning through assignment, editing, publishing, and ongoing optimization.
- Write, edit, and package exceptional, performant content across blogs, newsletters, campaigns, and other strategic initiatives.
- Manage freelancers and agency partners with thoughtful stewardship and grace to help scale the work while meeting or surpassing the quality bar.
- Partner with SEO/AEO, Product Marketing, Communications, Design, and other teams to identify opportunities and maximize the reach and impact of our content.
- Proactively use performance data and audience insights to identify growth strategies, improve content performance, and help the team make smarter editorial investments.
- Leverage AI and modern content tools to improve research, editing, and production workflows.
You have:
- 8+ years working in content marketing, content strategy, editorial, or a related field.
- An exceptional writing and editing track record, with a history of elevating the work of other writers through thoughtful feedback and high editorial standards.
- Proven success leading a blog, newsletter, publication, or similarly scaled editorial program.
- Comfort managing freelancers, agencies, and other external contributors to deliver high-quality work at scale.
- A solid command of business, entrepreneurship, finance, or similar subject matter, with the ability to make it engaging and accessible.
- Strong editorial judgment paired with a thoughtful marketing mindset — you care as much about who sees the work as the quality of the work itself.
