Traveler-Friendly Insight

This role at Nebius is listed as Amsterdam or remotely, which opens the door for location-independent engineers — though with important caveats. The posting does not specify a required timezone window, but collaborating with R&D hubs across Europe, the UK, North America, and Israel strongly implies that CET/CEST-adjacent working hours are most practical. Nomads based in Europe or nearby regions (e.g., Southeast Europe, East Africa) will have the smoothest overlap.

Since no explicit list of allowed countries is provided, eligibility to work legally in your country of residence is required — Nebius explicitly states applicants must be authorized to work in the country where they apply. This rules out pure tourist-visa arrangements for most jurisdictions. Digital nomad visas in countries like Portugal, Spain (Beckham Law), or Estonia's e-Residency pathway could be viable depending on your situation.

No salary is disclosed, making cost-of-living comparisons approximate. Senior backend engineers in Amsterdam typically earn €80,000–€120,000+. At the lower end, this comfortably covers a premium nomad lifestyle in Lisbon (~€2,000–€2,800/month), Medellín (~€1,200–€1,800/month), or Bangkok (~€1,500–€2,200/month), leaving significant savings potential.

  • Async-friendliness: Implied but not guaranteed — distributed team suggests some async culture
  • Travel perks: No explicit coworking or equipment stipend mentioned
  • Best-fit nomad bases: Lisbon, Berlin, Warsaw, Tallinn — all within CET ±2h

About Nebius:

Nebius is leading a new era in cloud infrastructure for the global AI economy. We are building a full-stack AI cloud platform that supports developers and enterprises from data and model training through to production deployment, without the cost and complexity of building large in-house AI/ML infrastructure.

Built by engineers, for engineers. From large-scale GPU orchestration to inference optimization, we own the hard problems across compute, storage, networking and applied AI.

Listed on Nasdaq (NBIS) and headquartered in Amsterdam, we have a global footprint with R&D hubs across Europe, the UK, North America and Israel. Our team of 1,500+ includes hundreds of engineers with deep expertise across hardware, software and AI R&D.

The Role:

We are looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our Observability Platform team in Amsterdam or remotely. Building a reliable and profitable cloud platform is impossible without world-class observability. It spans every layer of the stack — from developer tooling and CI/CD pipelines to Kubernetes, managed services, databases, networking, and customer workloads.

Our mission is to provide a unified ecosystem for logs, metrics, traces, alerting, and troubleshooting that enables engineers to understand and operate systems at scale. You will build and scale the core services behind this platform, working on high-volume telemetry ingestion, distributed storage, query engines, alerting pipelines, and new ways to help engineers make sense of operational data, including AI-assisted troubleshooting.

We expect you to have:

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Strong knowledge of Golang or willingness to quickly switch to it
  • Experience building distributed backend systems
  • Solid understanding of software reliability, scalability, and performance
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex production issues
  • Teamwork-oriented approach and strong communication skills

It would be an added bonus if you had:

  • Experience building or contributing to observability platforms, telemetry systems, or related open-source projects such as Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Jaeger, OpenTelemetry, VictoriaMetrics, Mimir, Tempo, or similar technologies
  • Experience using ClickHouse in production

Benefits & Perks:

  • Competitive compensation
  • Career growth and learning opportunities
  • Flexibility and ownership
  • Collaborative and innovative culture
  • Opportunity to work on impactful AI projects
  • International environment and talented teams
