Reporting to the Locates Supervisor, the Utility and Private Utility Locator will be responsible for performing utility locates for gas, electricity, telecommunications, water and sewers. Please note that this position is unionized, therefore it will be a requirement to join the union upon acceptance.

The areas of service include Ottawa and Cambridge.

What You'll Do Here
  • Safely locate underground utilities accurately using utility record systems and electronic locating equipment.
  • Field mark and document utility locates using locate work management software, following prescribed documentation procedures.
  • Complete locate requests assigned by Foreperson/Coordinator/Superintendent accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Understand and utilize infrastructure records in planning/completing utility locates.
  • Safely operate a company-provided vehicle including planning travel to/from work sites.
  • Work (as assigned) as a member of locate project teams.
  • Communicate with Superintendent, Foreman, Coordinator, and Client contacts (both internal and external to Aecon) — verbal, email, etc.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What You Bring To The Team
  • Valid Ontario (G) Driver's License and clean driving record.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and stay productive under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work long hours when required to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work accurately and problem solve under pressure.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work to timelines.

  • Strong computer skills — work management software, email, MS Excel, MS Word.
  • Experience with public locates, private locates, pre-engineering locates and Vital Main Integrity (gas distribution third party observation) considered an asset.
  • Prior construction experience is considered an asset.
  • DPT Certification is considered a strong asset.

Pay Range: $29 – $39 per hour as per the current Collective Agreement.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
