Traveler-Friendly Insight

This role is explicitly tagged #LI-REMOTE and listed as "Remote UK," meaning you can work from anywhere within the UK. For digital nomads, the key constraint is that Mozilla requires UK-based employment for this position — so you'd need a right to work in the UK (e.g., British citizenship, settled/pre-settled status, or a UK work visa).

Schedule & Async Friendliness: Mozilla is a globally distributed organisation with a strong remote-first culture, suggesting meaningful async flexibility. However, this policy comms role requires real-time responsiveness to fast-moving regulatory and media developments, as well as stakeholder engagement across European time zones (CET/CEST). Expect a largely European-hours schedule, not a fully async lifestyle.

Nomad Logistics: If you hold UK residency, you could potentially base yourself from EU countries for short stints under tourist visa allowances (90 days in Schengen). Practical nomad-friendly hubs compatible with European working hours include:

  • Lisbon, Portugal: Low cost of living relative to London; strong tech/policy community; easy Schengen access.
  • Barcelona, Spain: Vibrant digital nomad scene; Spanish Digital Nomad Visa available if you later seek longer stays.
  • Berlin, Germany: Directly relevant given the EU policy focus; French and German language skills are listed as a bonus.

Travel-Relevant Perks: The one-time home office stipend and quarterly well-being stipend can support a mobile setup. No explicit coworking or travel allowance is mentioned, but Mozilla's open culture typically accommodates flexible work arrangements.

Why Mozilla?

Mozilla Corporation is the non-profit-backed technology company that has shaped the internet for the better over the last 25 years. We make pioneering brands like Firefox, the privacy-minded web browser. Now, with more than 225 million people around the world using our products each month, we're shaping the next 25 years of technology and helping to reclaim an internet built for people, not companies. Our work focuses on diverse areas including AI, social media, security and more — all while never losing focus on our core mission: to make the internet better for people.

The Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the non-profit 501(c) Mozilla Foundation. This means we aren't beholden to any shareholders — only to our mission. Along with thousands of volunteer contributors and collaborators all over the world, Mozillians design, build, and distribute open-source software that enables people to enjoy the internet on their terms.

About the Team and Role:

Mozilla's mission is to champion the internet as a global public resource, measured through a double bottom line: advancing that mission while succeeding in the market. The global public policy team enables this by shaping laws and regulatory frameworks that support open source technologies, strengthen user choice and privacy, and ensure fair competition.

Mozilla is looking for an experienced Policy Communications Europe Lead to help set the public narrative on the role Firefox and its browser engine Gecko play in keeping the web open. The work will cover privacy, AI, open source, competition, and internet policy — translating the positions Mozilla's policy team develops into stories that get ahead of the debate, not just respond to it. You'll drive Mozilla's proactive policy media voice across regions and audiences, build narratives, craft media relationships, and build credibility among key stakeholders.

You'll translate complex, high-stakes policy issues into stories that connect, inspire, and drive impact — helping Mozilla and its partners cut through noise, frame critical debates, and spotlight what's at stake for users everywhere.

What You'll Do:

As Policy Communications Lead for Europe, you will:

  • Sit in the Policy & Comms organisation, reporting to the Europe Policy Lead.
  • Focus on Europe as your key region, with readiness to apply your skills to emerging key markets for Firefox on other continents.
  • Serve as a central operator, translating policy strategy into public narrative that advances the products we build and the changes they advocate for on the web.
  • Own and drive Mozilla's proactive media narrative on privacy, security, AI, open-source, competition, and emerging regulatory issues — translating policy positions into stories that get ahead of the debate.
  • Place and amplify a steady cadence of thought leadership pieces that put Mozilla's policy positions in front of the right audiences.
  • Serve as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to communications colleagues and senior Mozilla leaders, supporting proactive and reactive policy comms across the organisation.
  • Work cross-functionally with marketing, legal, product, and engineering teams to shape narratives that advance Mozilla's mission and differentiate our voice from "Big Tech."
  • Build and nurture relationships with key journalists, policymakers, industry thought leaders, advocacy organizations, and influencers in technology, digital rights, and policy spheres.
  • Craft and edit a wide range of materials — press releases, blog posts, policy statements, op-eds, speeches, regulatory submissions, and executive briefing documents.
  • Prepare Mozilla spokespeople for high-stakes media, public, and policy engagements, including message development, media training, and issue briefing.
  • Track and respond to fast-moving external developments, helping Mozilla seize moments to lead important conversations and manage risks.
  • Help shape Mozilla's public policy positioning on critical product initiatives, supporting launches, campaigns, and issue-based advocacy.
  • Work closely with the wider communications team and external agency partners to ensure clarity, alignment, and operational rigor across channels.
  • Serve as a point of escalation and counsel in high-risk, complex, or crisis policy scenarios.

What You'll Bring:

  • 5–10 years of experience in policy communications, media relations, or related roles, ideally in technology, advocacy, or policy-driven environments.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills — with the ability to distill complexity into clarity, urgency, and actionable narrative.
  • Deep knowledge of technology policy issues such as privacy, data, AI, competition, digital rights, open source, and internet regulation.
  • A track record of building strong relationships with journalists, policymakers, and policy-focused organizations globally.
  • Experience advising and supporting senior executives on high-profile, high-stakes communications and issues management.
  • Strategic instincts, operational rigor, and comfort with ambiguity and rapid change.
  • Confidence operating in a global, remote, and mission-driven organization.
  • Experience supporting product communications and collaborating with engineering/technical teams.
  • Ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on execution — no job is too big or too small.
  • Passion for Mozilla's mission: making the internet safer, more open, and more human.

Bonus Points For:

  • Experience in both in-house and agency settings.
  • Additional languages beyond English — particularly French and German.
  • Prior experience in open-source, civil society, or non-profit tech environments.

What You'll Get:

  • Generous performance-based bonus plans to all eligible employees — we share in our success as one team
  • Rich medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous retirement contributions with 100% immediate vesting (regardless of whether you contribute)
  • Quarterly all-company wellness days where everyone takes a pause together
  • Country-specific holidays plus a day off for your birthday
  • One-time home office stipend
  • Annual professional development budget
  • Quarterly well-being stipend
  • Considerable paid parental leave
  • Employee referral bonus program
  • Other benefits (life/AD&D, disability, EAP, etc. — varies by country)
