Remote Finnish Football SME Translator - Work Anywhere — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
This role is a strong fit for digital nomads and location-independent workers. It is a fully remote, freelance/contract position with no stated office requirement — you can work from anywhere with a reliable internet connection and a licensed copy of MS Office.
Async-friendliness: The job posting mentions no fixed hours, real-time meetings, or timezone requirements. Tasks like translation, quality control, copy editing, and MTPE (Machine Translation Post-Editing) are inherently async and self-paced, making this well-suited for nomads hopping between time zones.
Language requirement: Native-level Finnish fluency is mandatory, so this role is specifically targeted at Finnish speakers — most likely based in Finland or Finnish-speaking expat communities abroad.
Cost-of-living perspective: Without a disclosed salary, it's difficult to benchmark precisely. However, localization/SME contracts like this typically pay per word or per hour. Popular nomad bases worth considering:
- Chiang Mai, Thailand: Very low cost of living (~$800–$1,200/month) — even modest per-word rates can cover expenses comfortably.
- Tbilisi, Georgia: Affordable (~$1,000–$1,500/month), with a digital nomad visa available for stays up to 1 year.
- Lisbon, Portugal: More expensive (~$2,000–$2,500/month), but offers the EU digital nomad visa pathway for non-EU citizens.
No travel-specific perks (coworking allowance, equipment stipend) are mentioned. Ensure you own licensed MS Office before applying, as this is a stated requirement.
