Engineering Manager Remote Canada - StackAdapt — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
Remote-Friendly but Canada-Anchored: This role is tagged #LI-REMOTE, meaning StackAdapt supports fully remote work. However, the hint strongly implies a Canadian base, and benefits (401K/pension, health from day one) suggest local employment compliance matters. If you're a nomad holding Canadian residency or a work permit, this opens well for location-independent work within Canada's timezones (ET–PT).
Timezone Considerations: As an Engineering Manager accountable for incident response and cross-team coordination, expect a need for significant overlap with North American business hours — likely 9am–5pm ET or PT. Full async flexibility is unlikely given the on-call and operational leadership nature of the role. Plan your nomad base around ET–PT overlap windows; destinations like Medellín, Colombia (ET -1) or Lisbon, Portugal (ET +5, but with early mornings) are feasible with disciplined scheduling.
Perks for Travelers:
- WeWork global membership — access coworking spaces in cities worldwide, reducing the need to find a café with stable Wi-Fi
- Work-from-home reimbursements — may cover home office or remote workspace costs
- Personal development budget (conferences, courses) could fund travel to industry events
Cost of Living Snapshot: Without a stated salary, benchmarking is approximate. Engineering Manager roles at Canadian tech firms typically pay CAD 160K–200K+. In Bangkok or Medellín, that income affords a very comfortable lifestyle. In Lisbon, it's comfortable but housing costs have risen significantly in recent years.

We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead our EngOps Applications team. This role is accountable for team delivery, operational health, and execution of infrastructure work supporting critical production systems.
A strong technical background is required to guide decisions and support the team, but success comes from prioritization, clarity, and people leadership — not individual contribution.
What you will do:
- Lead, coach, and support a team of engineers
- Own planning and delivery, ensuring priorities are clear and commitments are met
- Be accountable for system reliability, incident response practices, and follow-up
- Provide technical oversight by reviewing designs and guiding trade-offs
- Ensure documentation, runbooks, and operational standards are maintained
- Act as the primary point of accountability when working with partner teams
What we're looking for:
- Experience managing engineers in a people leadership role
- Background in Infrastructure, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering
- Experience operating production systems in AWS
- Strong understanding of Linux, Kubernetes, and containerized systems
- Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform required)
- Comfortable leading teams through incidents and operational challenges
What success looks like:
- The team delivers reliably with clear ownership and priorities
- Incidents lead to measurable improvements over time
- Engineers are supported, growing, and not burning out
- Infrastructure work enables the broader organization effectively
