Engagement Manager at GitLab - Remote UK (French) — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
Remote-First at a Fully Distributed Company: GitLab is one of the world's most prominent all-remote companies, meaning there is no office to report to. However, this Engagement Manager role is specifically focused on French-speaking customers and is hinted to be based in the UK, which suggests a preference for CET/GMT-adjacent timezone availability for client calls and internal forecast meetings.
Timezone Flexibility: The role involves regular forecast calls, weekly Salesforce/Clari updates, and real-time customer communications — these activities are somewhat synchronous and will likely require consistent availability during Western European business hours (GMT/CET). Pure nomads in Southeast Asia or the Americas may find the overlap challenging without deliberate scheduling.
Nomad-Friendly Perks:
- Home office support from GitLab helps cover equipment — useful when setting up in a new location.
- Flexible PTO gives autonomy over when you take time off.
- No mandatory office presence means popular EU nomad hubs are viable: Lisbon, Berlin, Amsterdam, or Barcelona all sit in GMT/CET and offer digital nomad visas or favorable residency programs.
Visa Considerations: Since the role is UK-hinted, an EU digital nomad visa (e.g., Portugal's D8, Spain's Digital Nomad Visa) paired with GitLab's fully remote status could work well. UK-based candidates can work freely; non-UK EU citizens should confirm entity-specific hiring eligibility with GitLab's Talent Acquisition team, as country hiring guidelines vary.
No travel allowance or coworking budget is explicitly mentioned, but GitLab's async-forward culture and handbook-driven workflows make it one of the more nomad-compatible employers at enterprise scale.
