Director Security Engineering at Auctane - Remote Spain — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
This role is officially remote, based in Spain — meaning you must be a Spanish resident (or willing to relocate there). It is not a location-flexible, work-from-anywhere position. However, within Spain it offers genuine remote flexibility, with an optional office in central Madrid available when you want it.
Timezone considerations: The job explicitly requires overlap with US-based teams. Depending on which US time zones are involved (likely US Central/Eastern, where Auctane's ShipStation HQ is based in Austin, TX), expect to be available from approximately 3:00 PM–7:00 PM CET on most days. This limits true async freedom but still leaves mornings largely self-directed.
Travel: Up to 10% travel is required — roughly 4–5 weeks per year. This could include US team meetups, which suits nomads comfortable with periodic international trips.
Salary context: At €95K–€104K gross/year in Spain, this is a strong local salary. In Madrid, comfortable living runs ~€2,500–€3,500/month. Compared to popular nomad hubs: Barcelona is similarly priced; Lisbon (Portugal) is slightly cheaper but you'd need Spanish residency here regardless.
- Visa: You must be legally authorized to work in Spain. EU/EEA citizens qualify automatically; non-EU applicants may explore Spain's "Digital Nomad Visa" (Startup Act), though this role requires Spanish work authorization, not tourist status.
- Perks relevant to travelers: Equipment choice (Mac/Windows), wellness budget, and training allowance all support a flexible working setup.

About the Role
Reporting directly to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), the Director of Security Engineering holds a critical leadership position within the Information Security Group, with a specific mandate to fortify Auctane's global engineering and operational capabilities. This role necessitates the leadership and oversight of multiple security programs spanning the engineering and operations teams.
The successful candidate will be instrumental in defining and developing the technology and processes governing cybersecurity practices to secure Auctane's global infrastructure. The role specifically concentrates on securing the Enterprise and Cloud Infrastructures, alongside managing security architecture, engineering, and operations responsibilities.
The Infosec group operates as part of the broader R&D Tech function, which utilizes modern architectural patterns and technologies, including AI, at scale and pace. This is a remote role based in Spain, requiring the successful candidate to work during hours that overlap with the US-based organization.
Travel Requirements: Up to 10% travel required.
