Cloud Ops Engineer at Branch - Remote USA Role — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
US-Only Remote — Not Suitable for International Nomads
Branch explicitly restricts this role to candidates currently authorized to work in the United States, with no sponsorship or transfer available. This means the position is off-limits for international digital nomads or those residing outside the U.S., regardless of remote status. If you're a U.S. citizen or green card holder currently abroad, there is no stated geographic restriction within the U.S., but the on-call rotation requirement is a critical constraint to factor in.
On-Call Is the Biggest Lifestyle Factor: This role requires participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation, which significantly limits location flexibility. You'll need reliable, high-speed internet at all times and must be reachable around the clock. Traveling across time zones — even domestically — can complicate on-call scheduling and handoffs.
- Salary vs. nomad cost of living: At $135–150k USD/year, your purchasing power in lower-cost U.S. states (e.g., Texas, Georgia, Florida) would be excellent, but international living may conflict with employment authorization requirements.
- Home office stipend: A monthly stipend is provided, which helps offset desk/coworking costs.
- Async-friendliness: The role involves sprint-based work and incident response — partially async, but on-call duties demand real-time availability.
For location-independent professionals, this role is best suited to U.S.-based nomads who stay within domestic time zones and can maintain a reliable internet connection for on-call duties.
