Traveler-Friendly Insight

This role is advertised as fully home-based in the UK or Northern Ireland, which sounds nomad-friendly at first glance — but the reality is more nuanced for location-independent workers.

Travel requirement is substantial: The position requires 50–60% domestic travel (site visits, overnight stays), with potential international travel at the Senior CRA level. This means you need a stable UK home base, not a roaming lifestyle. Jet-setting between Lisbon co-working spaces won't fit this role.

Visa and legal constraints are real: The posting explicitly states candidates must be legally authorized to work in the UK without employer sponsorship. This rules out digital nomad visa arrangements; you need the right to work in the UK (e.g., British citizenship, Settled Status, or a valid UK work visa).

Schedule flexibility: CRA work is largely self-directed between site visits, and some administrative work can be async. However, site monitoring visits, investigator meetings, and project team calls require synchronous participation during standard UK business hours (GMT/BST).

  • Lisbon / Bangkok / Medellín: Working remotely from these destinations is not feasible — UK work authorization is mandatory and the travel demands require a UK base.
  • Best fit: UK-based professionals who want a home office as their primary workspace but are comfortable with regular travel within the UK and occasional Europe trips.

If you're seeking a fully location-independent CRO role, look for remote CRA positions that explicitly allow EU/global home bases without a domestic travel requirement.

Precision for Medicine is not your typical CRO. We are passionate about cultivating our culture and are proud to share extremely high CRA retention rates compared to industry averages.

CRAs join us, love their jobs, and stay because of the amazing people and enjoyable quality of life. You will have a lower than average number of protocols, setting you up to be a protocol expert. Travel is reasonable and your work/life balance will benefit as a result. Most meaningfully — your voice will be heard. Working in a smaller CRO allows you to have influence and impact when it matters most, with support from direct line management.
