Traveler-Friendly Insight

This role is one of the most location-flexible jobs available for digital nomads. As an independently contracted telephonic interpreter, you work entirely by phone — no video, no office, no fixed desk required. As long as you have a quiet, secure space and a reliable phone or VoIP connection, you can work from virtually anywhere in the world.

Async vs. Live: This is a live, on-demand inbound call role, so you do need to be available during scheduled shifts. However, as an independent contractor you likely have flexibility in choosing which hours you work, making it possible to align your schedule with your chosen timezone.

Visa considerations: Since this is an independent contractor position open to international applicants, digital nomad visas (available in Portugal, Costa Rica, Georgia, and many others) are well-suited. You could also work on tourist visas in many countries for short stays, though always verify local tax and work permit rules.

  • Lisbon, Portugal: Cost of living ~$1,500–$2,000/month. A viable base with strong Wi-Fi and a digital nomad visa pathway.
  • Bangkok, Thailand: Cost of living ~$1,000–$1,500/month. Excellent connectivity; Thailand LTR visa available.
  • Medellín, Colombia: Cost of living ~$900–$1,400/month. Great for Spanish speakers; stable infrastructure.

The key practical requirement is a noise-free environment for calls — coworking spaces with private booths or a quiet private room in a coliving space would work well.
