The Redstone Pocket Knife

$39

The Redstone is designed to be a compact and lightweight outdoor knife that you'll bring along anywhere the trail may take you. With our new island design concept, the Redstone allows for a finger to rest between the islands, providing superior grip, especially for a smaller knife. The Redstone is built around a one-piece die-stamped chassis which makes it incredibly strong, reducing the overall number of parts. The Redstone features our TJB Slide-Lock design for secure lock-up and easy one-handed use. The Redstone features a Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel for high corrosion resistance and great edge retention and has our very first bent-wire clip, it's the lightest and simplest clip possible.

Our Review

The James Brand Redstone — A 1.9 oz Trail Companion That Does It All

The gist: A compact, ultralight folding knife built for outdoor travel — the one-piece die-stamped chassis and Sandvik steel mean it can handle camp food, fishing line, and cardboard boxes without turning into a heavy, fussy tool.

  • Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel: High corrosion resistance makes it a solid companion in humid coastal or rainy conditions where cheaper blades rust fast.
  • 1.9 oz, 2.5" blade: Light enough to forget it's on your hip and compact enough to slip into a daypack side pocket alongside your passport wallet.
  • Island-grip design: Finger gaps between the chassis cutouts give surprisingly confident grip for a small knife, especially one-handed while managing a camp stove.
  • Ambidextrous slide lock + bent-wire clip: One-handed opening and a featherlight clip that won't rip a pants pocket — practical for left- and right-handed travelers alike.

GearJunkie called the Redstone “the future of EDC blades,” highlighting its die-stamped construction as unusually rigid for a knife this small and affordable.

Best for: Outdoor travelers, van-lifers, and hikers who want a reliable utility knife at campsite or trail without the weight of a full-size folder. Skip it if: you fly carry-on only — any folding blade is prohibited in airplane cabins and will need checked luggage. Runs around $39 — check the current price before buying.
