Traveler-Friendly Insight

Critical Barrier for Digital Nomads: Despite being listed as "Fully Remote," this role requires an active US Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI. US security clearances are only granted to US citizens and are tied to compliance with US government background investigation standards. This fundamentally restricts the role to US-based applicants who remain subject to US jurisdiction.

Location Flexibility Within the US: The role is fully remote within the United States, meaning you could work from any US state. This allows for domestic location-hopping — living in lower cost-of-living states like Texas, Florida, or Nevada (no state income tax) while earning a premium defense-contractor salary.

Schedule & Async Considerations: The job description emphasizes "frequent meetings and interviews with users and stakeholders," suggesting it is not fully async-friendly. Expect synchronous collaboration during core Eastern or Central business hours, typical for DoD-adjacent programs.

Salary vs. US Nomad Hubs:

  • Austin, TX: $150K–$268K is highly competitive; no state income tax boosts take-home pay significantly.
  • Boise, ID: Cost of living is moderate — this salary affords a very comfortable lifestyle with room to save aggressively.
  • Remote in a van/RV: Theoretically possible within the US, but clearance compliance and stable internet for government systems may add complexity.

International digital nomad lifestyles (Lisbon, Bangkok, Medellín) are not compatible with this role due to clearance and citizenship requirements.
