Traveler-Friendly Insight

Fully Remote & Location-Independent — This role is explicitly full-time remote, making it a strong fit for digital nomads. Lemon.io places contractors globally across 75+ countries, so there is no single country restriction as long as you're in a supported region.

Timezone Flexibility: The client is a European AI lab, which suggests meetings and collaboration will likely lean toward European business hours (CET/CEST, roughly UTC+1 to UTC+2). This is worth confirming at the project-matching stage, but it means nomads based in Lisbon (WET/WEST), Eastern Europe, or Southeast Asia with overlap hours (e.g., Thailand UTC+7 for early-morning calls) are well positioned.

Cost of Living Comparison (no salary disclosed):

  • Lisbon, Portugal: A popular EU nomad hub; moderate cost (~$2,500–3,500/mo), great timezone alignment with European clients.
  • Bangkok, Thailand: Very affordable (~$1,200–2,000/mo), but requires early-morning calls for European timezone sync.
  • Medellín, Colombia: Budget-friendly (~$1,500–2,500/mo), but a 5–7 hour gap from CET makes overlap challenging.

Visa Considerations: Since this is a contractor model (not direct hire), you'll need to manage your own legal/tax setup. Portugal's Digital Nomad Visa (D8), Germany's Freelancer Visa, and Estonia's Digital Nomad Visa are all viable for European stays. For short stints, tourist visas in Thailand, Colombia, or Portugal work well for contractors.

No equipment stipend or coworking allowance mentioned — budget for your own setup accordingly.
