PGD Developer at EDB - Remote EMEA Postgres Role — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
100% Remote — Strong Fit for Location-Independent Engineers
This role is explicitly 100% remote with no office requirement, making it well-suited for digital nomads and location-independent professionals. The position targets the EMEA region, so expect timezone expectations roughly aligned with UTC-1 to UTC+5. Code reviews and collaboration with a "globally distributed team" suggest some degree of async-friendly culture, though overlapping hours for standups or reviews are likely required.
Timezone Flexibility: EMEA coverage gives you a wide band to work from. Popular nomad hubs like Lisbon (UTC+1), Tbilisi (UTC+4), or Cape Town (UTC+2) all fall within plausible working windows. You would have more friction working from Southeast Asia (UTC+7 to UTC+9) without late-hour commitments.
Cost-of-Living Comparison (no salary disclosed): Without a stated salary, budgeting is approximate. Senior C/Postgres engineers at this level typically earn €80K–€130K+ in Europe. At that range:
- Lisbon, Portugal: Comfortable lifestyle, ~€2,500–3,500/month for a furnished apartment + expenses
- Tbilisi, Georgia: Very affordable — €800–1,200/month all-in; eligible for remote workers via tourist visa stays
- Cape Town, South Africa: Mid-range, ~€1,200–2,000/month; favorable exchange rates for EUR earners
No explicit travel perks (coworking budget, equipment stipend) are mentioned — confirm with the recruiter. The "Wellness Fridays" benefit is a nice async-culture signal.
