Senior Level Designer at Blackbird - Remote Canada — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
Canada-Only Residency Required — Not Fully Location-Independent
While Blackbird Interactive is a remote-first studio with flexible work arrangements, this role requires candidates to legally reside and be eligible to work in Canada. This rules out traditional digital nomad arrangements involving cross-border travel or living abroad long-term.
That said, for nomads already based in Canada or planning to relocate, this is an excellent remote-friendly position. Canada's vast geography means you could work from Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, or even smaller cities and towns without being office-bound.
- Timezone flexibility: No fixed hours are mentioned, suggesting async-friendly workflows common in remote game studios — though PT/ET overlap is likely expected for cross-team collaboration.
- Visa consideration: International talent would need a Canadian work permit (e.g., via Express Entry, Global Talent Stream, or LMIA-backed permits) before applying.
- Salary context: CAD $115K–$149.5K converts to roughly USD $85K–$110K. In Vancouver specifically, cost of living is high; this salary is competitive but not lavish in that city. Working remotely from more affordable Canadian cities like Halifax or Winnipeg would stretch it considerably further.
If you're a nomad without Canadian residency, this role is not accessible without first establishing legal Canadian residency or a valid work authorization.
Blackbird Interactive is a creative-fueled, future-driven, independent game studio where the best talent in the industry can find long-term careers to help grow their abilities while working on a wide range of projects, which encompass world-class IPs as well as our own creations across multiple genres.
Our studio operates as a remote-first workplace, offering flexible work arrangements.
PLEASE NOTE: At this time, we are only able to hire candidates who are legally eligible to work in Canada and reside within Canada.
