Traveler-Friendly Insight

This role is listed as Remote @ Colombia, meaning OfferUp is specifically hiring in Colombia. If you hold Colombian residency or citizenship, this is a strong remote opportunity. If you're a non-Colombian digital nomad, you'd need to either hold a valid Colombian visa or work from Colombia on a tourist visa (typically 90 days, extendable to 180 days/year) — worth checking current rules before committing.

Timezone flexibility: The job description does not specify fixed hours, and OfferUp's base is in Bellevue, WA (Pacific Time, UTC-7/8). Expect some overlap with US Pacific business hours for cross-functional collaboration, likely 9am–2pm PT. From Colombia (UTC-5), that translates to a morning-heavy schedule — very manageable and still leaving your afternoons free.

Async-friendliness: The emphasis on experimentation, metrics, and written ownership of features suggests a largely async workflow, though on-call rotation implies some reactive availability expectations.

Cost of living context (no salary listed): Colombia itself offers excellent value — Medellín and Bogotá are popular nomad hubs with monthly costs of $1,200–$2,000 for a comfortable lifestyle. If you're based elsewhere, note that the role appears geographically restricted to Colombia, limiting flexibility to roam freely while employed.

  • No travel-specific perks (equipment stipend, coworking allowance) mentioned in the posting.
  • On-call rotation is described as "reasonable" — a green flag for work-life balance.

Headquarters: Remote @ Colombia

About the Role:

The OfferUp Business team owns the platforms that power every business vertical on our marketplace: Storefronts, Auto Dealers, Services, Rentals, and Jobs. Our customers aren't casually browsing — they're running businesses on top of what we build, so every feature we ship has a direct, measurable impact on their livelihood and on OfferUp's revenue.

We operate the full stack end-to-end, including microservices that handle some of the highest RPS and TPS in the company, and integrations with partners like Stripe and Shopify. We move fast, instrument everything, and treat experimentation as a first-class part of the workflow. The roadmap is wide open for someone who wants to help shape it.

On our team, you own a feature from concept to fruition — from writing well-architected and thoroughly tested code, to rolling out the feature by analyzing metrics. You also take ownership beyond your technical area by working with cross-functional team members.

As a Full Stack Software Engineer II on the Business team, you'll ship features end-to-end across the stack — from the React components our business customers interact with, to the Java services and data pipelines behind them.

What You'll Do:

  • Design, build, and deploy new user experiences and backend services across our five business verticals, using React, TypeScript, GraphQL, Node.js, and Java
  • Own features end-to-end: plan, design, develop, deploy, measure, and iterate
  • Break down complex engineering problems into achievable tasks and deliver them within committed timeframes
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, Data, Business stakeholders) to design and implement new features
  • Contribute to A/B tests and use experimentation results to decide what ships
  • Actively participate in code reviews and enforce good patterns, testing, and edge-case handling
  • Coach and mentor junior team members, new hires, and interns
  • Create shared components, utilities, and services that improve team velocity across the stack
  • Maintain and improve the runbooks, alerting, and monitoring for the features you ship
  • Participate in a reasonable on-call rotation with the rest of the team
  • Use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, and similar) to increase your daily development velocity and code quality
  • Become a subject matter expert in one or more of the team's sub-domains

You'll Thrive in This Role If You Have:

  • 2+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Demonstrated ability to own the delivery of multiple features end-to-end (plan, design, develop, and deploy) with high efficiency, including breaking down engineering problems into achievable tasks
  • Strong coding skills across the full stack:
    • React, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and modern web tooling; good grasp of responsive design, performance, and cross-browser compatibility
    • Java and a working understanding of microservices and distributed-systems fundamentals
  • Experience building and integrating with REST or GraphQL APIs
  • Good knowledge of data structures and object-oriented design
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) in a real engineering workflow, and a point of view on when they help and when they don't
  • Follows good coding patterns, writes appropriate tests, considers trade-offs, and actively seeks out edge cases
  • Comfortable giving and receiving feedback in code reviews
  • A bias toward shipping, learning from production, and iterating quickly
  • An insatiable desire and ability to learn
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience

Helpful, But Not Required:

  • Fluency in any other modern OOP programming language
  • Experience with Agile development
  • Experience with AWS Cloud infrastructure
  • Experience with web package managers, Bower, bundler systems, Node.js, Python, or webpack
  • Experience with A/B testing platforms (Statsig, LaunchDarkly, Optimizely) and analytics warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake)
  • Experience consuming or integrating LLM-based APIs (e.g., Bedrock, Vertex AI, OpenAI)
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines
