Traveler-Friendly Insight

Location Flexibility: Mercury explicitly supports fully remote work across the United States and Canada, which provides meaningful flexibility — but note that eligibility is restricted to those two countries. Digital nomads based elsewhere will not qualify unless they have a US or Canadian work authorization and a US/Canadian address.

Async & Schedule Flexibility: The job description doesn't mandate fixed hours, and Mercury's culture around building for "founders on the go" suggests a results-driven, relatively async-friendly environment. However, collaboration with PMs and engineers likely requires some overlap with US Pacific or Eastern time zones, so expect a practical working window of roughly 9am–6pm PT/ET on most days.

Visa Considerations: This role requires working legally in the US or Canada. For US-based nomads, TN visas (Canadian/Mexican citizens), O-1, or existing work authorization are relevant. Canada's digital nomad visa pilot and various provincial streams may apply for Canadian positions.

Salary vs. Cost of Living: The US salary band ($189k–$236k USD) is exceptional by global standards. At $189k+, monthly take-home significantly exceeds costs in Medellín (~$1,500/mo), Lisbon (~$2,500/mo), or Bangkok (~$1,200/mo) — but you must maintain US/CA residency or legal work status, limiting true location independence.

  • No travel perks explicitly mentioned (no co-working stipend or meetup budget stated)
  • Mobile-first role — designing for on-the-go users while working remotely is a natural fit

Headquarters: San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, Portland, OR, or Remote within Canada or United States

The Memphis Group burst onto the scene in the early 1980s with a belief that design could be more than purely functional — it could be bold, expressive, and deeply human. They expanded what design could be, embracing color, emotion, and personality at a time when clarity and restraint dominated. That same spirit of possibility, of questioning defaults and reimagining what tools can feel like, still resonates today.

At Mercury, we're building banking for builders. Entrepreneurs who are often on the go and need to manage their business from anywhere. People who live complex lives who need their personal finances to feel like a breeze. We're rethinking what financial tools can feel like when they're designed with real people in mind: fast, expressive, and thoughtfully crafted from the ground up.

We're looking for a Senior Product Designer to help define what modern banking should feel like for founders on the go. This role is unique because you'll help define the holistic future of Mercury's mobile experience — not just design features. You'll work alongside another senior designer focused on pushing craft forward, ship high-impact work quickly and see it used by real businesses immediately, and have room to explore ambitious ideas and turn them into real products.

What you'll do

  • Lead design for major mobile initiatives from concept through launch and iteration
  • Shape the vision for Mercury's native iOS and Android experiences
  • Turn complex financial workflows into simple, intuitive interactions
  • Work closely with product managers and engineers to decide what to build and why
  • Prototype ideas quickly to explore direction, test assumptions, and refine details
  • Design polished, production-ready interfaces with exceptional craft and precision
  • Contribute to our design systems and help evolve patterns across platforms
  • Raise the quality bar for interaction, visual design, and product thinking across the team

What we're looking for

  • 6+ years designing high-quality product experiences
  • Strong visual and interaction design skills with a sharp eye for detail
  • Experience designing complex systems, not just individual screens
  • Ability to work through ambiguity and drive projects forward independently
  • Clear communicator who can articulate decisions and influence product direction
  • Experience designing native mobile apps (iOS and/or Android)
  • Thoughtful collaborator who makes teammates better
