Senior Software Engineer at Edfinity - Remote US — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
Important caveat for international nomads: Edfinity explicitly requires US work authorization and cannot sponsor or transfer visas. This role is open to US-authorized workers only — meaning it is not accessible to most international digital nomads unless they already hold a valid US work visa or citizenship.
For US-authorized remote workers who travel: The role is fully remote with the team distributed across the US. The job description emphasizes personal flexibility and accountability rather than fixed hours, which is a positive async signal. However, since customers and colleagues are US-based, some timezone alignment with US business hours (likely ET–PT range) is practical, even if not explicitly mandated.
- Lisbon, Portugal: At $135K–$195K USD, you'd live very comfortably — average monthly costs for a single person run ~$1,800–$2,500. Portugal's D8 Digital Nomad Visa requires income proof, but US work authorization rules may complicate remote-work-abroad arrangements with a US employer.
- Bangkok, Thailand: Extremely affordable at ~$1,200–$1,800/month. The Thailand LTR Visa is an option, but again, US tax and employer legal compliance must be verified.
- Mexico City: Popular US-accessible nomad base (~$1,500–$2,200/month), same timezone overlap advantage, and easier for US residents traveling on tourist visas short-term.
No travel-specific perks (coworking stipend, equipment budget) are mentioned in the posting. Confirm remote-abroad policies directly with Edfinity before relocating internationally.

Your work will reach hundreds of institutions, and you will help decide how it gets built.
How We Work
- We're fully remote, with team members distributed across the US, and with that comes personal flexibility and accountability.
- AI agents produce most of our code. We move fast, but we temper velocity with quality and stability above all else.
- Engineers frame the problems, direct the work, and are accountable for everything that ships. If you already work this way and have opinions about it, you'll feel at home.
- Everyone has opportunities to work across different areas of the platform, and team members are expected to develop deep technical expertise over time. This is particularly important as we step away from hands-on coding.
- We're a small team of collaborative senior engineers. Your opinion matters.
- The pace of change is real. More than ever, we're continually evolving our tooling and workflows as LLMs become more capable.
