Traveler-Friendly Insight

This role is an in-person, location-specific position at a Walmart store in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. It requires physical presence on the sales floor, including evenings, weekends, overnight shifts, and holidays. There is no remote or hybrid component whatsoever.

For digital nomads or location-independent workers, this job is not compatible with a nomadic lifestyle. The role demands daily on-site presence, physical tasks (standing, lifting up to 50 lbs.), and shift-based scheduling driven by store traffic — none of which can be performed remotely.

If you are a traveler considering working in Canada temporarily, note the following:

  • Work authorization: You must be legally permitted to work in Canada. Working holiday visa holders (e.g., from Australia, Ireland, the UK, France, and other IEC-eligible countries) may qualify for this type of role.
  • Thunder Bay context: Thunder Bay is a mid-sized city in northwestern Ontario. Cost of living is moderate by Canadian standards, but significantly higher than popular nomad hubs like Bangkok or Medellín. At CAD $19.35/hr (~40 hrs/week), gross monthly income would be approximately CAD $3,350 — enough to live comfortably locally, but not particularly competitive for nomad savings.
  • Better alternatives for nomads: If you seek location flexibility, look for remote retail operations, e-commerce, or customer success roles instead.
