Senior AWS Cloud Architect - Remote Contractor Role — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
This role is fully remote and contractor-based, making it viable for location-independent professionals — but with one significant constraint: you must be available during US business hours with a few hours of daily overlap with Central European Time (CET). This effectively means you need to work a transatlantic schedule, roughly covering ET/CT US hours plus some CET overlap.
Timezone window analysis: CET is UTC+1 (UTC+2 in summer). US Eastern is UTC-5/UTC-4. A "few hours of overlap" likely means you need to be online from approximately 3–5pm CET (9–11am ET). This rules out Southeast Asia (e.g., Bangkok, UTC+7) and most of APAC as primary bases without very early mornings or late nights.
Best nomad destinations for this timezone band:
- Lisbon, Portugal — WET (UTC+0/+1), perfectly bridging US ET and CET. Cost of living is moderate (~$2,500–3,500/mo). Portugal's Digital Nomad Visa is a strong fit for contractors.
- Medellín, Colombia — UTC-5, aligns well with US East Coast hours. Very affordable (~$1,500–2,200/mo). Colombia has a digital nomad visa valid up to 2 years.
- Mexico City, Mexico — UTC-6, works well for US timezones. Cost ~$1,800–2,800/mo. Proximity to the US also helps with client meetings.
No travel perks (coworking stipend, equipment budget) are explicitly mentioned. As a contractor, you should negotiate these separately. The ASAP start date requires immediate availability.
