Traveler-Friendly Insight

This role is telehealth-only and fully remote, but it comes with a critical geographic constraint: you must be independently licensed in California and physically residing there. That's a hard requirement, not a flexible perk — California licensure is state-specific, and you cannot legally provide therapy to California clients from another U.S. state or abroad.

For digital nomads, this role is not location-independent in the traditional sense. You are tethered to California residency to maintain your license and malpractice/liability standing. Working from Lisbon, Bangkok, or Medellín is not an option — telehealth licensure in the U.S. requires physical presence in the licensing state or a state with a compact agreement.

Schedule flexibility within California is real: sessions can be scheduled seven days a week between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. ET (4 a.m.–7 p.m. PT), giving California-based practitioners genuine schedule autonomy. The minimum commitment is 20 hours of availability per week.

  • No mention of coworking stipend or equipment budget
  • No visa sponsorship — must already be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • W2 employment means standard U.S. payroll taxes apply

If you're a licensed clinician who wants remote flexibility within California — working from home, a cabin in Tahoe, or anywhere in the state — this role offers that. It's not a nomad role, but it is a genuine work-from-home telehealth position.

Thriveworks is currently seeking Licensed Clinicians to provide telehealth sessions in California.
