Traveler-Friendly Insight

Remote-First with a 25% Travel Caveat: Builder.io is a fully remote company, which is great news for location-flexible professionals. However, this Sales Engineer role requires up to 25% travel — roughly one week per month — for customer meetings, POV engagements, and enterprise visits. This means you need a stable base, reliable flights, and a consistent timezone presence, rather than hopping between destinations week to week.

Timezone Considerations: No specific timezone is stated, but the role targets US and Canadian enterprise customers. Expect to align primarily with EST–PST business hours for customer-facing demos, discovery calls, and executive presentations. This limits pure nomad flexibility to regions within UTC-8 to UTC-5 overlap windows — Latin America (e.g., Medellín, Mexico City) works well; Southeast Asia would be very challenging.

Perks Relevant to Nomads:

  • WeWork All Access pass or $300/month co-working reimbursement — highly useful for structured work in cities worldwide
  • $500 home office budget — helpful for setting up a solid remote workspace anywhere
  • No mention of equipment stipend beyond home office budget; confirm laptop/gear policy before accepting

Salary vs. Cost of Living: At $220K–$260K USD, purchasing power is significant. In Medellín, this covers an exceptional lifestyle (~$2,000–$3,000/month). In Lisbon (~$3,000–$4,000/month), it affords comfort with savings. Even in pricier Bangkok (~$2,500/month), you'd live very well. The 25% travel requirement is the main constraint for a nomadic lifestyle — plan your base strategically near a well-connected international airport.

Builder.io is looking to add an accomplished Sales Engineer to our team to help enterprises unlock the full value of AI-powered development. Builder.io is redefining how engineering teams build — giving developers and non-developers alike the ability to create, iterate, and ship production-ready applications through AI. You will partner with Account Executives to engage with engineering leaders, architects, and developers in a consultative sales process: understanding their technical environment, demonstrating tangible business value, running hands-on proof of value engagements, and closing business.

As an Enterprise Sales Engineer at Builder.io, you will...

  • Build trusted relationships with engineering leaders, CTOs, and developer teams — serving as their trusted technical advisor throughout the evaluation and purchasing process
  • Lead technical discovery, deliver compelling product demonstrations, and guide prospects through hands-on proof of value engagements inside their real development environments
  • Advise customers on how to integrate AI-powered development into their development workflows — identifying the highest-value use cases, recommending adoption patterns, and helping cross-departmental teams understand how Builder.io can change the way they build
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations, whiteboarding sessions, and workshops tailored to both business stakeholders and highly technical audiences
  • Serve as the first line of defense for security and compliance questions, guiding customers to relevant resources and escalating complex requirements to the appropriate teams
  • Create and maintain internal documentation, demo guides, and enablement resources that capture common customer requirements and accelerate the team's ability to execute
  • Act as the internal voice of the customer — gathering feedback from the field, identifying common themes across enterprise accounts, and partnering with Product and Engineering to continuously improve the Builder.io platform and messaging
  • As an early-stage hire, bring creativity and a spirit of experimentation to all that you do — we have a working playbook and we want you to help make it better

You will thrive in this role if you have...

  • 5+ years of experience in a technical pre-sales role (Sales Engineer, Solutions Architect, Solutions Consultant, or similar)
  • At least 3+ years selling to Enterprise customers and managing senior technical and business relationships
  • Hands-on fluency with AI tooling and the modern software development lifecycle — you don't need to be a full-time engineer, but you should be comfortable working in technical environments, understanding developer workflows, and advising on AI adoption strategies
  • Experience building with or selling developer tools, AI-powered coding platforms, or technical platform products to engineering organizations
  • Proficiency with modern development methodologies and frameworks (APIs, JavaScript, React, JSON) and the ability to build working prototypes or demos to validate use cases
  • Strong executive presence — equally comfortable coding alongside developers as you are presenting to a CTO or VP of Engineering
  • A track record of running structured POV processes: establishing clear goals and success criteria, working hands-on inside customer environments, and driving toward measurable outcomes
  • Foundational understanding of IT security principles and experience supporting enterprise security and compliance requirements in a pre-sales context
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to distill complex technical concepts for any audience
  • Previous experience in a startup or fast-paced environment
  • Able to travel up to 25%

The items above are a starting point for a conversation, not a hard list of requirements. If this role excites you, we hope you will apply!

The total compensation range for this role is $220,000 - $260,000 USD, including base salary and target variable pay. This role is also eligible for a meaningful equity grant and comprehensive benefits.

Builder is a fully remote company and hires across multiple locations. Compensation may vary based on location and will be discussed early in the hiring process. Final offers are determined based on experience, role-related knowledge, skills, and qualifications demonstrated throughout the interview process.
