Traveler-Friendly Insight

Remote — But Tightly Constrained to Virginia: While this role is listed as "Fully Remote," the posting explicitly states the position is remote within Virginia. This is not a location-independent nomad opportunity. The Secret security clearance requirement and work supporting U.S. Department of Defense contracts further restrict eligibility to U.S. citizens who can maintain that clearance, eliminating most international travel or relocation scenarios.

Travel Requirements: Occasional in-person travel to Chesapeake or Norfolk, VA is required for client meetings, sea trials, and ship inspections. This means you'd need to be within reasonable commuting/travel distance to coastal Virginia — not abroad.

Visa & Eligibility Constraints: The Secret clearance requirement means only U.S. citizens need apply. Digital nomad visas in countries like Portugal, Costa Rica, or Thailand are entirely incompatible with this role's clearance and geographic restrictions.

Salary vs. Nomad Cost of Living (Academic Only): The $70K–$117K range would stretch well in cities like Medellín or Chiang Mai, but since residency outside Virginia is not permitted, this comparison is moot in practice.

Bottom Line for Nomads: Skip this one. If you're seeking true location-independent defense/engineering roles, look for positions explicitly labeled "Remote – Any U.S. State" without clearance requirements, or explore MANTECH's other openings in pure IT or data analytics that may offer more geographic flexibility.
