Traveler-Friendly Insight

This role is listed as fully remote with the enticing note "work from anywhere that suits you best," making it superficially attractive to digital nomads. However, there are significant timezone constraints to consider carefully.

Timezone Constraint: Teaching hours are fixed at approximately 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM Thursday through Sunday, almost certainly in US time zones (likely US Eastern or Pacific). This means:

  • From Lisbon (WET/WEST): You'd be working 7 PM–1 AM or later — manageable but late nights every weekend.
  • From Bangkok (ICT, UTC+7): Teaching hours fall at 2 AM–8 AM Friday–Monday — essentially a nocturnal schedule. Not recommended.
  • From Medellín (COT, UTC-5): Hours shift to 1 PM–7 PM, nearly identical to US Eastern — ideal for Latin America-based nomads.

Visa considerations: Since this is a W-2 position with a US employer, you must be authorized to work in the US. Working remotely abroad on a tourist visa in most countries is a legal gray area. Countries with digital nomad visas (Portugal, Costa Rica, Croatia) may offer more clarity, but you'd still need US work authorization.

Practical nomad rating: LATAM and Western Europe (westernmost) are the most viable regions. Asia and Oceania are largely incompatible with the fixed schedule. The $35/hr teaching rate offers solid income — roughly $1,400–$2,100/month gross at part-time hours — which comfortably covers costs in Medellín (~$1,200/mo) but is tighter in Lisbon (~$1,800/mo).
