BS/MD Admissions Consultant - Remote USA & Canada — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
This role is a 1099 part-time contract, making it one of the more travel-friendly consulting arrangements available in the edtech space. There are no fixed office hours mentioned, and the work—reviewing essays, advising on school selection, and coaching students—is inherently async-compatible, though some scheduled video sessions with students will be required.
Timezone considerations: Since the client base is US-focused (BS/MD applicants), consultants should expect to hold sessions within North American time windows (roughly EST–PST). From abroad, this means evening hours in Western Europe or early morning in Southeast Asia—manageable for a part-time workload.
Visa and location flexibility: The role is open to anyone based in the US or Canada. As a 1099 contractor, you retain flexibility to travel; however, tax and contract compliance between countries should be reviewed. Digital nomad visas in countries like Portugal, Costa Rica, or Georgia could work well if you maintain US/Canada tax residency.
- Lisbon, Portugal: ~$1,500–2,200/mo living costs — even modest consulting income goes far here
- Medellín, Colombia: ~$900–1,400/mo — excellent value with good co-working infrastructure
- Chiang Mai, Thailand: ~$700–1,200/mo — very affordable, though Pacific timezone overlap is limited
No travel-specific perks (coworking stipend, equipment budget) are mentioned, so factor those costs into your rate negotiation.
