Architectural Sales Rep at dormakaba - Remote Virginia — Columbus
Traveler-Friendly Insight
This role is remote-eligible but geographically restricted to Hampton Roads, Virginia — specifically Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Newport News, Suffolk, or Norfolk. While the title carries a "remote" tag, this is a territory-based field sales role, not a location-independent one. You must live within the assigned territory.
Travel requirements are significant: up to 50%+ of your time will be spent traveling within the territory for client meetings, networking events (AIA, CSI, DHI), and specification follow-ups. This is not an async or timezone-flexible position — client engagement in the Mid-Atlantic region drives the schedule.
For digital nomads, this role is not suitable for slow-traveling or multi-base lifestyles. You'll need a stable home base in coastal Virginia. That said, the Hampton Roads area offers a relatively affordable cost of living compared to other East Coast metros:
- Virginia Beach/Norfolk: Median 1BR rent ~$1,400–$1,700/month — manageable on a $85K–$100K base salary.
- The $127,500–$150,000+ total compensation is strong for the region and allows comfortable living.
If you're a nomad considering this role, plan to anchor yourself in Hampton Roads. The 50% travel is regional, not international, offering little opportunity for overseas remote work. Look for roles tagged fully async or "work from anywhere" instead if lifestyle flexibility is a priority.
