UN54 35mm Black & White Film - 100 ISO & 36 exp

$6.9

Cut from rolls of legendary cine film, WOLFEN UN54 is produced on the original Wolfen site, where motion picture film manufacture has been a tradition since 1910. Originally used to make monochrome movies, the black and white tones of WOLFEN UN54 will capture cinematic scenes in photographic format.

With a medium speed of 100 ISO, WOLFEN UN54 is perfect for sunny days and scenes where attention to detail is desired. Featuring a classic fine grain structure and subtle contrast, there is a reason why this is our most famous emulsion.

Wolfen UN54 35mm Black & White Film — cinema-grade grain for the price of a coffee

The gist: A cheap, sharp cine-stock B&W film that's easy to pack for any trip and rewards you with punchy, high-contrast travel shots.

  • Travel-light format: Standard 35mm canister, 36 exposures — slips into any daypack or camera bag alongside a point-and-shoot or SLR.
  • Built for daylight: Rated 100 ISO, so it's tuned for sunny outdoor scenes — beach towns, mountain trails, midday markets.
  • Cinema pedigree: Cut from ORWO's original Wolfen cine stock (motion-picture roots dating to 1910), giving deep blacks and fine, classic grain.
  • Budget-friendly: Cheap enough to shoot several rolls across a long trip without rationing frames.

Photographer Alex Luyckx's hands-on review (Film Review Blog No. 107) notes the film delivers "amazing contrast, excellent grain, and sharpness," with deep blacks and edge sharpness that hold up well — though he flags it does halate noticeably in bright highlights, so watch for flare-prone scenes.

Best for: nomads who want a classic, contrasty B&W look for sunny travel documentation without spending a lot per roll. Skip it if: you're shooting mostly indoors or low light — 100 ISO needs bright conditions. Runs ~$6.90 — check the current price before buying.
