FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS Lens - Open Box
Capture distant subjects while keeping your camera lightweight with the FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS Lens from Sony. This full-frame lens is designed for use with mirrorless E-mount cameras where it delivers an excellent telephoto zoom range. It also uses a maximum aperture of f/4 to keep size and weight down. Incorporated into the optical design are a series of specialized elements to ensure aberrations are suppressed, this includes two extra-low dispersion elements, one super extra-low dispersion element, two advanced aspherical elements, and one aspherical element. Along with these capabilities, a Nano AR coating will help minimize the appearance of flare and ghosting.
Note: Only available in the US.
Our Review
Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS — A Full-Frame Telephoto Built for Travelers Who Don't Want f/2.8 Weight
The gist: An 840g full-frame telephoto zoom with built-in optical stabilization and weather-resistant construction — a lighter, travel-friendlier alternative to Sony's f/2.8 trinity zoom for outdoor and portrait shooting.
- Telephoto reach without full-size weight: 70–200mm full-frame coverage at 840g is significantly lighter than comparable DSL telephoto lenses, making it manageable for carry-on travel setups.
- Built-in Optical SteadyShot (OSS): In-lens stabilization is useful on Sony bodies without IBIS and stacks with body IS on newer cameras — handheld telephoto shots at slower shutter speeds stay sharper on the move.
- Dust and moisture resistant: Sealed construction handles outdoor shooting conditions — useful when shooting through light rain, dust, or humid coastal environments.
- Compressed portrait and wildlife framing: Super ED and advanced aspherical elements control chromatic aberration; 9-blade circular aperture produces smooth background blur in travel portraits and wildlife shots.
Digital Camera World called it a “lightweight and easily manageable” telephoto option for those who “don't demand” f/2.8 speed, noting its more portable profile versus the Sony GM alternative.
Best for: Sony E-mount travel photographers who need reliable telephoto reach for portraits, wildlife, and compressed cityscapes without the weight penalty of an f/2.8 zoom. Skip it if: You need f/2.8 for indoor sports or events — at similar pricing, independent-brand f/2.8 options exist. Minimum focus is 1.0m. Runs around $1,199 — check the current price before buying.
