Our Review

Fujifilm GF 63mm F2.8 R WR — medium format quality, actually backpack-friendly

The gist: The most portable standard prime in the Fujifilm GFX medium format lineup, offering strikingly detailed 50mm-equivalent images that hold up even on the trail.

  • Compact for medium format: At 405g and 84 x 71mm, it’s small enough to pair with a GFX body without turning your camera bag into a burden.
  • 9-point weather and dust sealing: Functions in temperatures as low as -10°C — built for mountain hikes, wet markets, and coastal shoots where conditions are unpredictable.
  • Impressive center sharpness at f/2.8: Wide-open performance means you don’t have to stop down to get keepers, which matters in fading golden-hour light.
  • Natural 50mm-equivalent perspective: Renders scenes much as the human eye sees them — ideal for street, documentary, and environmental portrait work while traveling.

Fstoppers’ review of the GF 63mm calls it “compact for medium format work” with “strong center sharpness at f/2.8” and “solid” flare resistance — a reliable choice for serious travel shooters already in the GFX ecosystem.

Best for: GFX system photographers who want their most versatile, travel-friendly prime for landscapes, street, and portrait work. Skip it if: you don’t already own a GFX body — this is a G-mount-only lens with no adapter options for other systems. Runs ~$1,275 (open box) — check the current price before buying.
