CineStill 800T 120 Film — the roll for shooting neon-lit nights on the road

The gist: A tungsten-balanced, ISO 800 motion-picture-derived film built for night and mixed-lighting scenes — the film to pack for a night out in a neon-lit city, not a beach day.

  • Built for tungsten and mixed light: rated at ISO 800 (usable 200-2000, pushable past that), it's tuned for tungsten, incandescent, and fluorescent light rather than daylight.
  • Signature halation: the film's removed remjet layer produces a distinct red glow (halation) around bright point light sources — dramatic around neon signs and streetlights, though it can't be turned off.
  • Genuinely fine grain for its speed: reviewers describe the 120-format grain as nearly invisible for an 800-speed film, staying controlled even pushed to 1600.
  • Honest tradeoff in daylight: outside tungsten light, the film carries a strong teal-blue cast unless shot with a correction filter — this is a night film first.

Daydream Film's review calls the grain "impressively fine for ISO 800" and notes the film "really shines" in neon-lit urban environments, while flagging the halation as "either loved or hated" and the daylight color cast as a real limitation.

Best for: travelers shooting night markets, neon streets, or mixed-lighting city scenes who want a distinctive cinematic look. Skip it if: you're shooting mostly daylight/outdoor scenes — you'll fight a blue color cast the whole roll. Runs ~$17-25 per roll — check the current price before buying.
